How To Make Cleaning and Organizing Easier

You want a clean house, but when you’re ready to call it a day, perhaps the last thing you want to do is… (“Jaws” theme song).. C-L-E-A-N! There are a few Cinderella’s out there who love cleaning their castle, but it’s probably safe to say cleaning is not a hobby for most.

Avoid big cleaning days. Step by step, day by day cleaning can become easier than you think. Here are a few tips to help you master the art and earn your crown, princess!

  1. Clean your kitchen before bed- Make it a habit to have a clean sink before you go to bed. This can prevent a 20 plate pile up the next day. Clean your counter tops with anti bacterial wipes, followed by a quick floor sweep.
  2. Shower Power, Rub a Dub Tub-Both are a hotel suite for germs. You need to stay healthy and so do your children. After each shower (or bath), it is not necessary to scrub your tub. Scrubbing Bubbles Automatic Shower Cleaner works like a gem. You can also buy a shower cleaning spray, allow it to soak according to the directions and rinse with HOT water. A spray a day can minimize germs and reduce soap scum. YUK! Wipe down your bathroom counter tops. Empty the bathroom trash when it is half full. Sometimes, just having a clean bathroom feels like your entire home is clean.
  3. NO Clutter-Junk mail is inevitable. Knick knack, patty wack, get rid of those dog bones. If you have small knick knacks that are on display in December when it’s Easter, there is a problem. Grab a box. If you have a dog, by all means sanitize their toys with pet friendly antiseptic wipes. If there are items you cannot part with, but you know it’s been in the same place for a LONG time, it’s OK. Putting those items in a box just means they are on a small vacation. For the items you want to get rid of, donate them to charity. Hoarding is not trendy. The more clutter, the more dust. Dust mites aren’t trending either.
  4. Laundry Madness-Hampers, one of life’s greatest inventions. If you’re a new Mom use “Dreft” laundry detergent. This product is excellent for sensitive skin. That baby butt needs all the softness it can get! Keep dirty towels separate from clothing. Towels are the curtains in that little germ suite listed above!
  5. Sanitize-There are several antibacterial wipes available for cleaning. When shopping for household cleaning products, buy those provide antibacterials.
  6. Teen Machine-Get the children involved and offer a reward for a job well done. If you have a teenager, offer them a new car (it may be only thing that works). Just kidding! Offer the older children a hand when cleaning their bedroom. If they want their independence when cleaning (and they probably will), let them have it.

Cleaning doesn’t have to be a burden. Adding a dose of your favorite music during your big cleaning days is a plus. It’s great for the mind and body. There will be times when your place is a mess, as long as your mess doesn’t become a place!

It would be lovely if we could all hire a maid and kick our feet up after a long day. Ahh, what a luxury. Nevertheless, as the great Bette Midler once said, “My idea of superwoman is someone who scrubs her own floors.”
